Crude Oil ? a) Why is the demand for diesel oil and residue greater in winter than in summer? b) Why is the demand for petrol fairly constant in summer and winter? c) What could an oil company do to cope with the changing demand between summer and winter?
How much crude oil does it take to make a gallon of diesel compared to a gallon of regular? I know, in general autos get better gas mileage from diesel fuel, but as I understand it diesel fuel is more energy dense and I assume takes more crude oil to make. How much exactly? I would like to calculate how many miles one can drive on a barrel (42 gallons) of crude oil given in a vehicle that gets, say 50 MPG a) diesel, b) regular Knowing how much diesel and oil actually produced in the USA isn't the answer I'm looking for. This number is determined by supply and demand. I want to know in terms of energy. I know from wikipedia regular gas has 125,000 btu's of energy and diesel 138,700. Does it take the same amount of crude oil to make a gallon of either?
How much more crude oil does it take to make diesel versus gasoline? Say you have a million barrels of crude oil. You could use it to make x gallons of diesel, or y gallons of gasoline. I would imagine that x is less than y, since diesel is more energy-dense than gasoline. But can anyone give any specific figures, or at least tell me the percent difference between x and y?
What is the main components of crude oil? Hello, im doing a research on crude oil, and i need to know whats the components of crude oil is. The problem is i cant really find it. Thank you for all of your help.

What happens if I hold a crude oil futures contract past expiration? Let's say I am trading crude oil futures, and I accidentally held a contract past expiration. What would happen? I can't actually take delivery of 1,000 barrels of oil! Conversely, what would happen if I held a sort contract passed expiration? I don't have 1,000 barrels of oil to deliver! Would these situation be settled in cash? What exactly would happen? Thanks!
What will happen after there is no more crude oil on the planet? I've heard that the oil peak is going to be reached this or next year. And from here the amount of crude is going down. After all this is finished up, what will humans use? Crude is so reliable and easy to use. I can't imagine a world with people relying on light and water as their everyday "gas". What is the world planning to do? I really hope scientists are coming up with ideas for things that could replace crude oil because its going to be all used up in 20-25 years!
How much natural gas/crude oil is required to generate 1 KW of electricity? I am comparing the costs of generating electricity from crude oil and natural gas. I would like to know: 1. How much natural gas is required to generate 1 KW of electricity? 2. How much crude oil is required to generate 1 KW of electricity? My government just increased the electricity bills by 21% citing increasing oil futures prices as the justification to do that. However, Singapore generated about 80% of its electricity from natural gas and not crude oil! I think this is a rip off.
Why are crude oil prices falling in the US right now? A little while ago, crude oil prices were plummeting with the price of the euro. Now the euro and pound are rising but crude oil prices are falling. Can someone explain the seeming contradiction? Why are oil prices falling? SDD, crude oil prices indeed fell over a course of a few days. They have recently risen though. I suggest you recheck the US markets over the past week or so--your comment is inappropriate.
How do you invest in crude oil online? I am a beginning trader with a TD Ameritrade account. I would like to know how to invest in crude oil. Is there an ETF or something out there? Any info would really help. Thanks!
Why does refining capacity in the United States affect world crude oil prices? I have seen this several times already in media reports. They claim that limited refining capacity is partially to blame for increased (crude) oil prices. I can understand that refining capacity would affect prices at the pump, but how is it that it affects world crude oil prices? It would seem that limited refining capacity that would cause limited supplies at the gas pump which would result in less crude oil being used, thus causing higher crude oil supplies. If other countries do not have as limited a refining capacity, wouldn't it make sense that they would have lower prices at their pumps (all else being equal)? pjallittle, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that the US market is so large, that when the refining capacity goes down, OPEC and other producers react by limiting supply. Even if producers could instantly change their production, this would result in the price of crude remaining the roughly the same. However, instead it used as reason for higher crude oil prices. In other words, if what you are saying is true, the opposite would also apply. So, if refining capacity magically increases in the US, the price of crude oil falls even if demand for crude oil increases? This also does not make sense to me.
How do crude-oil futures prices in commodity markets translate into big oil-company costs? Speculation on the commodity exchanges is driven by feelings of concern about political events and other external factors. The cost of crude oil to refineries is determined by actual supply and demand conditions in an entirely different market. Often long-term contracts between the few major oil companies and foreign governments set the cost of crude. Why then is every speculator-driven uptick in oil-commodity-futures prices reflected in higher gasoline prices at the pump? I don't understand the link between the two markets. Can anyone explain this to me?
How can I buy crude oil shares? If I want to invest in crude oil, how can I do it? I am planning to invest about 1000$. So, it's not a hige investment too.
How does crude oil price affect the gas price at the pump? When we see this price go down, how soon until we can expect to see the price at the pump go down? Also, these price reports usually include "for (month) delivery". Does that mean delivery to consumers, or delivery to the refineries? How does this delivery month affect prices at the pump? I understand that outside influences can change the price at the pump (refinery capacity, strikes, tax changes, etc). But, if we strip these variables away, how much does the price of crude oil (per barrel) affect the price at the pump?
Is it possible to burn the spilled crude oil on water surface? Looks like BP finally put the 150,000 lbs lid on the leak! Hope they really stopped the leak and didn't start somewhere else. What's next? How are they going to clean-up the floating crude oil from the ocean surface? It's been leaking for 3 months now. Is it possible to burn the millions of gallons of oil floating around the ocean surface? If there is a chance, I think that is less hazardous compared to leaving the oil on the surface for months, affecting sea life and coastal life. Any thoughts, suggestion or Ideas? Have a fantastic day!

Can we create edible proteins from crude oil? I've found a 1966 Reader's Digest in our local library containing this specific article, unfortunately, the same article about creating edible proteins from crude oil was ripped out. Was it ever successful?
What and how many products can a refinery get from 1 liter of crude oil? I am interested to find out how many products can be made from a barrel of crude oil, we all know that a barrel consists of 200 metric litrs, but after refining, what is the yield, what do they get out? I ask this because I am told that out of each liter, more than one liter of products is derived.
What are the TRADING SYMBOLS that I can use to watch CRUDE OIL prices? I like to watch the CALL and PUT options on the stocks that I own. Now, because of the World condition and Gasoline prices, I would like to watch the same thing on Crude Oil. I do not care about Oil Companys, per se, nor do I care about Futures, unless I have to start learning about those. I am thinking there are CALL and PUT options on CRUDE OIL! What are the symbols?
Is fractional distillation of crude oil considered a physical change or chemical change? Physical change: A reversible change whereby no new substance is formed. Chemical change: An irreversible change whereby one or more new substances are formed. Fractional distillation of crude oil is the thermal separation of a mixture of hydrocarbons into its varous constituents (due to their different boiling points). I am not sure if this is irreversible. Please advise. Thanks.
With the oil companies how is it that a big increase in crude oil prices equals huge profit increases? I was just wondering because every time there are huge price increases in overseas crude oil (the raw material our domestic oil companies use to make most of their gas and other products.) The oil companies always report increased profits, usually record profit increases. Is there any other industry that anyone can think of that has record profits whenever their raw material prices increase. That seems a little unreasonable to me if they are pricing their products fairly. Or am I wrong?
Can someone answer a few questions about cracking crude oil? I have got these science questions based on an experiment the teacher did about cracking crude oil.She used parrafin and porcelain. What is the gas that is wasted in bubbles? What is the function of the hot porcelain in the experiment? Thanks.
Why are gas prices high compared to crude oil? Crude Oil peaked at $147.27 per barrel on July 11 and gas prices were averaging $4.11 per gallon. Today the price per barrel is averaging at $2.95 with crude oil at about $75 dollars per gallon. Shouldnt our gas prices be at about $2.05 per gallon or is there something I am missing?
Are crude oil and fossil fuels the same thing? I am so confused about how gasoline is made! I embarrassed myself in class today by saying gasoline is made up of fossil fuels and then contradicting myself when I then said gas is made from crude oil. Can someone please tell me the difference or correlation between crude oil, fossil fuels, and gasoline? ANy other info about gas or anything pretty relative to this is welcome. I want to be informed and not make a fool of myself again. I really appreciate it!
how can I get historical data for crude oil? I would like to import the data into MATLAB, preferably it would be in the same .csv format as yahoo gives on its historical stock quotes, as my routine is already designed for this. How can I become an international crude oil agent. I want to for minimum financial investment get involved.? My interest in crude oil goes back many years. I want to start a company that links sellors with buyers of crude for commission. So if i'm only getting 1USD per Barrel but helping buyers buy up to a million barrels and beyond, then I'm into profit. I don't want to lay out loads of cash, my biggest investment I want to put in is time and skills. I'm very good at research, and at doing things within a framework. I understand the importance of laws and how costly not abiding by local, regional, national on international law can be. I don't want this to be an elaborate venture just yet. Does anybody have know how on how I could become a successful crude agent, using my computer, phone line, email, bank accout, languages and key factor a clear British Passport. If you can guide me in any way then please be in touch. A partnership or joint venture would be considered. Simple model i'm working with is to find sellors globally, get product information, find buyers for commission. ?
